Wyllie Online Draughts Club Playing Room

Known Bugs and Issues

Latest release of client software: Beta 56, Tuesday 12th April 2005

This release fixes a bug which was affecting users running Windows 2000 or Windows XP. If you pressed the enter key in another window while running the client, it would cause the client to no longer respond to the enter key, effectively "gagging" the user. This bug did not affect users running Windows 95/98/ME.

Firewalls

If your system is running one or more internet firewalls you will need to unblock port 113 for all TCP traffic. See the firewall page fore further details.

Reconnection issues after failed ISP connection. When a dial-up internet connection fails (or is closed) without exiting the client program first, it leaves both the client program and the network server at the other end hanging. The client will recognise this immediately, but the server at the other end is somewhat slower to recognised broken connections and may still show a user as present in the playing room for a minute or so after a disconnection. During this time the network server will send an error message when the user reconnects to the internet and tries to return to the room, saying "Nickname already in Use". This proplem has been addressed in the release of the client software on Tuesday 22nd March 2005. When the error message is received by the client it will try a second time to connect with a slight modification in the name (the middle underscore character _ is replaced by a hyphen) to avoid the clash of names with the network server. The network server used by WODC has also been switched to one which recognises broken coonections more quickly than before.
